ID 320 - Global Media

Credits: 4
An analysis of the patterns of global media ownership and media production, their impact on politics and political participation, and their potential for producing transnational cultural values. After examining concepts and theories of globalization, students will explore the relatively recent rise of global media, with attention to the technological advances supporting these media and the rapid growth and increasing consolidation and deregulation of media power. We will then focus on case studies of the political and cultural impacts of the new global media in both rich nations and less developed countries around the world.
